This is the red carpet season: Golden Globes, Grammys, Oscars. For celebs, getting on to the carpet in the right gown is not enough. They must also come with the right face.
That is why an upscale dermatology clinic in Manhattan, NY, says the magazine Glamour UK, gets busy this time of the year. The clinic, run by Arash Akhavan, MD, has a number of options for the red-carpet-ready.
One of them is the Hydra Facial, which is a favourite of actors Kate Winslet and Amy Poehler. Akhavan calls it the
perfect “reset button” for the skin.
The facial is given in four steps.
It starts with a deep exfoliator, followed by two light chemical peels and an extraction portion. The chemical peels drive out acne, reduce pores, help fight discolouration and ease out fine lines. The extraction portion helps remove build-up from past products. Which is amazing, given our bad karma.
The final step is application of a hydrating serum to inject moisture back into the skin
after the peeling.
That’s why Kate Winslet still looks like that.
He is also recommending fractional resurfacing laser and PicoSure Focus Laser, for fine lines, acne scars, and skin discolouration. These lasers, he says, induce the body to increase its own collagen.
The same principle of using a part of one’s own body to rejuvenate another is the basis of another innovation: a micro-needling technique called the “Blood Mask”.
Platelet-rich plasma is extracted from the patient’s own blood and a micro-needling device is used to then deliver
this growth-inducing serum back into the skin.
Though Akhavan likes to keep his glam clients list a secret, Kim Kardashian is known to be a fan of the “Blood Mask”.
