Durbari

Swissôtel’s newest restaurant, Durbari, offers Indian cuisine with a modern twist. Sample flavourful yet wonderfully light signature dishes like Durbari Paneer with its onion and capsicum-flavoured gravy and Shahad Murgh Tikka in which chicken chunks are marinated in Manuka honey from New Zealand, olive oil and Kashmiri chilli, and then roasted in a tandoor.

Meal for two: Rs 1,000 onwards

 

Casa Toscana
14 Sarat Chatterjee Avenue

With a bakery, formaggeria (cheese room) and a bar-lounge, Casa Toscana is set to woo gourmets in its new avatar at a new address. Try the Pollo Avvolto Nella Prosciutto di Parma or chicken wrapped in Parma ham and served with Sicilian mustard sauce and broccoli cashew pate. Or treat your taste-buds to Scampi Aglio Olio which is prawns tossed in garlic, chilli, olive oil and parsley. On your way out, check out the Casa Toscana range of products and take home any of the quirkily packaged jams (like capsicum and chilli), mustards (chocolate mustard or cherry mustard) or even herb-infused olive oils.

Hainanese Chicken Rice

If you are both a techie and a foodie, Bistro is the place to be. Here iPads double as menu cards complete with photographs of the dishes. The fare is international — from Burmese Khowsuey to Rajasthani chillies stuffed with cottage cheese.

This quaint Southeast Asian restaurant serves Nyonya cuisine — a mix of Singaporean, Malaysian and Chinese fare. Amongst the fast-moving dishes here are Malaysia’s national dish, Nasi Lemak or fried chicken/paneer and egg/tofu served with coconut milk rice and Hainanese Chicken Rice, the national dish of Singapore. This has rice cooked in chicken stock and lemongrass and served with boiled, herb-infused chicken, sambal sauce and clear chicken soup.

Meal for two: Rs 1,200 – Rs 1,800 (including drinks)

Stir fried prawns with Alphonso pulp

If you want to give your true-blue Bengali palate a different kind of treat, then head to Bohemian and indulge in fusion fare. Treat yourself to the exotic Chilli Pickle and Cheese Baked Crab with Kolmi Greens (crabmeat cooked in a creamy sauce flavoured with red chilli pickle, cheese, kashundi and chiffonade of kolmi green). Or try prawns stir-fried with sliced garlic, coriander root, green chillies and stewed in a broth with Alphonso pulp, green chilli paste, cooking cream and garlic. In a word, delicious.
