My weekend

Weekends...I think I’ve heard about those days. I usually travel for work over the weekends, so that I can keep my normal work week undisturbed. So, I’ve begun to forget what weekends feel like. Since Saturday is a working day for me, the TGIF thing totally eludes me. I do not start my weekend on a Friday night. The rare weekends I get in Calcutta kick off on a Saturday evening. And I prefer a night out with friends.

After a hectic week, what appeals to me most is to just let things come to a total halt and soak in some old-fashioned relaxation at one of the clubs ? preferably the Saturday Club. Sometimes we may go out to the ITC Sonar Bangla or a new restaurant, but mostly it is conversation and the comfort of old haunts that work best for us. I work a bit on Sunday mornings ? I usually go to my sites. I love a big Sunday brunch and even if I have work to do, I make it a point to have as many coffee breaks as possible. The odds of finding me at any random coffee shop on a Sunday are very high.

I also catch up with my wife Kaamna, and sons Vidyut and Yash on Sundays. We try to do things together, but unfortunately kids these days have a very different idea of entertainment compared to my generation. Occasionally, we catch a movie. I used to be a movie buff, but I think I’ve seen only four or five movies at INOX in the last three years. Unsurprisingly, on my only day off, I don’t want to end up at Forum again.

We usually go out for dinner, but that is an enterprise fraught with danger. Vidyut, now all of 18, has to be convinced that I’m still young enough to qualify for his company. After a round of coaxing, Yash, 12, takes over. What then proceeds is a round of battles over the place and the cuisine of choice. Sometimes, as a result, my weekend concludes leaving me very exhausted indeed.
