Being in the modelling profession, I can hardly call my job a normal nine-to-five one. In fact, most of the fashion shows and shoots are scheduled over the weekend. So yes, it’s pretty difficult to enjoy a weekend that’s totally free of work. Nevertheless, when a free Saturday or Sunday crops up, I couldn’t be happier for that means 100 per cent relaxation.
Although I consider myself a nocturnal creature, I can never have the luxury of waking up late in the morning. That’s because my four dogs ensure that I’m up and about or else they get most vocal about the fact that they’re wide awake and their mistress is fast asleep. So even on a weekend that’s devoid of any assignments, I drag myself out of bed and start pottering about the house. Devouring the newspapers ? in the bathroom, of course ? is one of my weekend rituals.
Being a singer as well, after breakfast, I usually sit down to do my riyaaz. I’m also very much a bookworm and love taking out a few hours during the weekend to curl up with a good book. I’m not a fussy reader so my preferences range from Paulo Coelho to Stephen Hawking or Vastu Shastra.
Saturday evenings are usually spent in the company of friends, and we hang out bowling or just chilling! Since most of the fashion shows are in the later hours of evenings and are always followed by an after party, I usually attend these dos as well.
My father, the late Pandit Nikhil Banerjee was a noted musician and on Sunday mornings, my mother always plays his music. Sometimes, a few of his former students also drop by and it’s always nice catching up with them. My mom, a former yoga instructor, also seizes the opportunity of a free Sunday to get me to do some asanas. That aside, Sundays are a time to catch up on the latest films and eat out at some of my favourite restaurants in the city like Pan Asian and Oh! Calcutta.
