The Right of Children to Free and Compulsory Education Act, popularly known as Right to Education Act (RTE), lays down the directives for the provision of free and compulsory education for children between the ages of 6 and 14. According to latest statistics, there are over 1.3 million recognised schools imparting elementary education across India. Of these, around 80% are government schools. Moving away from schools, on this day, over a century ago in 1910, in the city of Skopje, Agnes Gonxha was born to Nikollë and Drana Bojaxhiu. Nineteen years later, young Agnes first came to India, the country she adopted and made her own. Then came her ‘call within the call’ in 1946, and with the birth of a new India, we welcomed this new mother. Happy Birthday, Blessed Mother Teresa
