When I order a soup and I am asked ‘veg or non-veg’ the playful answer is always ‘strictly non-veg’. However let me turn a herbivore this Vegetarian Awareness Month and stir fry some exotic veggies in the wok. Bell peppers aka capsicum: Columbus while searching for peppercorn plants chanced upon sweet and hot peppers in the West Indies. Thus clung the misfitting ‘pepper’ in its name. Mushrooms: In ancient Egypt they were regarded as plants of immortality and pharaohs decreed them as only royal food. Cucumber: It can be up to 20°C cooler inside than the outside air. Truly a chill pill.
