The Shed seats 24-26. Retro switches and sockets, corrugated sheets, artificial skylights, the cement plaster on the walls broken in places — all of it combines to give the place a look true to its name. DD’s Cafe, which is a separate zone under the same roof, seats 13.
The multipurpose Fun Zone boasts three dart boards and just played host to a league modelled after IPL. If that isn’t cool enough, players earned food vouchers against the league entry fee! A carrom league under the aegis of the West Bengal Carrom Association is also on the anvil. The terraced seating is great for watching live matches on the big screen — no more twisting and craning your neck to get a piece of the action.
A large spherical frame suspended from the ceiling — its six sinuous arms bearing light bulbs — catches your eye as you enter The Shed.
Silhouettes of workmen dominate the walls.
The menu features a range of beverages — coffees, teas, shakes and mocktails. This Strawberry Crusher is all yours for Rs 130.
Want a quick bite? Try the pizzas, burgers, sandwiches or momos. The Chicken Pizza comes for Rs 170.
The Shed Special Lemon Chicken is not your usual lemon chicken. This one has a zesty freshness to it. The chicken is tender and goes brilliantly with the onion, green chilli and lemon juice. Rs 220
The Veg Penne Pasta is Rs 150 a plate, while the chicken option costs Rs 30 more. Go for the Lamb Pasta if you want to try something different.
We’re not sure if it looks like Smaug or a Hungarian Horntail, but the Dragon Fry — “KFC-style fried chicken” as they put it — is certainly crispy and flavourful. Rs 90

Things might go in and out of fashion in Calcutta, but the adda is an enduring element of our city. DD’s Cafe & The Shed, recently opened in Jodhpur Park, plugs into the adda spirit and brings us a place perfect for meeting up, catching a live game with friends, or simply having a good meal. The USP of the restaurant is the non-chargeable Fun Zone, which goes beyond sports and games. “We also want to promote emerging artistes here,” says Raj Bhattacharya, an interior designer and one of the partners in the venture. The other partners are Mahua Chakraborty, Sk Monirul, Irfan Ali and R.C. Thapa. Raj adds that The Shed is open to hosting birthday parties, book and music launches, and workshops. “This place is a creative-cum-chill zone for all age groups. The match screenings are a big draw and we’ll have a Best KKR Fan award during IPL,” he says. Besides the Chinese dishes and cafe fare on the menu, there will be biryani and kebabs soon.
