Pari star Anushka Sharma’s nail colours change with her state of mind. The Elle 18 brand ambassador tells t2 about her many moods.
We all love pampering ourselves a little more on our day off. And a good mani-pedi is one such indulgence. What nail polish colour did you round off your last mani-pedi with?
A mani-pedi routine at home or at the salon can be an indulgence! It’s a little self-pampering that is required at times. The last colour was actually one of my new favourites from the Elle 18 Nail Pops (which has relaunched with 50 shades); it’s a coral shade from the range.
What have been your nail polish loves over the years?
I think nail polish is the one thing that changes with your mood. Like every girl, I sometimes crave pop colours, at other times I just like to keep it nude, and sometimes I love black. It really keeps changing.
Are you experimental when it comes to nail colours?
With colours, like I said, it really depends on my mood, my outfit and a whole lot of things. Sometimes I am feeling like red, sometimes, blue, yellow and sometimes black!
Do you have a classic favourite?
I think a classic pink pop colour never gets old. One of the first Elle 18 Nail Pops that I had tried years back was also a pink.
Any summer colours that you are looking to try this season?
I want to try some bright colours. I think these really evoke spring time.
Are you also a nail-art girl?
Not at all. I like to keep it clean with one colour.
If you want your hands to do all the talking, what is the one colour you would choose?
Nude.
Three essentials we are most likely to find in your make-up pouch?
Mascara, lip balm and perfume.
Kiara Advani is a minimal make-up girl who loves her mascara-lipstick look. The M.S. Dhoni: The Untold Story actress, who is the newest face of Pond’s, chatted with t2 on her beauty basics.
What are your earliest memories of Pond’s?
Well, Pond’s is the first cream that I ever bought. I remember I was in school and I had gone to a school camp and they had a checklist of items that we had to carry with us, like torch, sleeping bag… cold cream was one of them. It’s a brand that’s been there for generations… I never thought I’d be the face of the brand.
From your pictures, you come across as a minimal make-up person...
Absolutely! I am somebody who likes the no-make-up look. So, for me, the only thing I do is really accentuate my lashes. I use mascara, lip tint or lipstick, blush-on and a quick-fix concealer. The only place I cover up is a little bit under my eyes or if I have a spot that I want to fix. I don’t like using foundation as part of my regular routine. That’s why it is important to make sure that your skin is healthy and evened out. It is important to use a good moisturiser and sunblock and to take care of your skin so that in the long run, your face is radiant and you are not going to have to look for make-up quick fixes.
Do you have a home-made beauty regimen?
There are a couple of things that my mom taught me like slicing up tomatoes and using the pulp on your face. The other thing is applying a mixture of besan and milk on your face… it removes dry, dead skin.
You’ve always wanted to be an actress, is it?
Always! Always!

Kareena Kapoor. She’s got amazing skin and she is one actress who can walk out without make-up and look flawless. She is so radiant and lovely.
Anything new you discovered about hair and make-up once you stepped into this profession?
More than anything, it’s my hair. There is so much heat that goes into the hair… you are constantly curling it, straightening it, blow-drying it. I didn’t realise that there would be so much of it… your hair starts getting brittle. I think taking care of your hair is as important as taking care of your skin. Whether it is oiling your hair or going for spas, nourishing your hair and making sure it’s clean is extremely important for me.
I have got to work with some of the most amazing hairstylists and make-up artists who have made me experiment and taught me so many things. If I know how to do my own make-up, apart from the YouTube tutorials, it has been for them. I have always been comfortable doing my own make-up, but I have picked up a lot of beauty hacks.
Tell us some of the hacks...
Oh, I love glitter lips. I saw them somewhere on Instagram. From my make-up artist, I have learnt how to do funky, coloured graphic eyeliners. You need a steady hand for that.
What colour are you loving at the moment? What are you wearing this summer?
All shades of pink. I will be wearing a lot of flowy dresses, maxis, prints and a lot of white.
