MIDNIGHT MOMENT

DJ Dippy ushered in the New Year with Gallan goodiyaan just before the countdown, while folks on and off the dance floor hugged and kissed as first the confetti and then the fireworks signalled the arrival of 2018. None looked more ecstatic than Swati Banerjee though, as husband Kunal lifted her off her feet!

MOOD & MUSIC

A packed dance floor at 10pm with some more hip-shaking in the aisles and grooving in the makeshift cabanas — RCGC was ready to dance the night away.

CLUB SPEAK

“A good party is one where both the host and the guests walk in smiling and stagger out laughing. And I can assure you that last night at RCGC, there was a lot of smiling and laughing and some staggering for good measure. At RCGC, a good party is par for the course, but for New Year’s Eve we like to take it up a notch and the 31st night party was what you call a hole-in-one success!” said A.N. Chatterjie, acting CEO, RCGC.

RED, WHITE AND A DASH OF BLING

Husband-wife duo Akash Bhowmick and Payel Sanyal were code red. While Payel rocked a flowy number, bought from the US last year, two thumbs up for Akash who wore fiery red like a boss. The couple from Seoul, who were visiting Calcutta for Christmas and New Year’s, chose the music, particularly the Bolly hits, as the party highlight. “We don’t get a lot of it in Korea!” said Payel, whose 2018 resolution was to “think positive”.

Shalini Kapoor danced all evening in her LWD. The red lips added to the glam quotient. “The  DJ (DJ Dippy) was fabulous and I loved being here with my friends,” said the homemaker.

Hina Firdause dressed up in a shimmery Mango number for the last party of 2017. “The DJ was amazing,” said Hina who was all for “new beginnings and forgetting the messy stuff of the past”.

Keka Bose was all glam in her sequinned dress bought from Dubai. “The beautiful thing about leaving a year behind is collecting all the lessons you’ve learnt that you can use in the upcoming year,” she said. Her mantra for 2018? “Make it happen!”

RCGC regulars Suparna (second from right) and Saibal Dutt (third from right) got together with friends and family on the sprawling club lawns, which looked straight out of a fairy tale, lit up with a carpet of lights. Fireworks at midnight gave the evening a scintillating finale.

YAY! WE WON

While RCGC member Abhijit Das was Manyavar Best Dressed Male, Lavi Gadodia was Manyavar Best Dressed Female. “I wear whatever I feel comfortable and confident in,” said Lavi, a Shanghai resident.

(L-R) Friends Debosmita Paul, Debapriya Guha and Ananya Banerjee chilled at RCGC. “I loved the vibe!” said Ananya. For Debosmita, the ambience was a hit. “I don’t usually go out partying, but I loved the fact that it wasn’t too loud here,” she said. Debapriya had lost her voice by the time she left RCGC! Reason enough for her to cheer for DJ Dippy who made her dance 2017 away.

Shisha was the puff fave for the night. The buffet included delicacies like Mutton Galauti Kebab (picture above), Keema Matar and Chicken Tikka Makhani. Whisky was the chosen poison.

STAGE STORY

DJ Dippy got the party rolling with retro faves like Mambo No. 5, Macarena, Rhythm Is Gonna Get You and Y.M.C.A. After a quick fun pose for the t2 camera, Dippy was back for the final countdown. London thumakda, Hungama ho gaya, Ishq tera tadpave, Lungi dance, Gandi baat, Tune maari entriyaan, Mundian to bach ke, Gal ban gayi and more groovy tracks followed. “I’ve played at RCGC the last three years and I know the mixed crowd here appreciates all genres. Guru Randhawa’s Suit suit really got the crowd going though, as did Gallan goodiyaan. Shape of You remains a hot favourite,” said the spin-master.

Yashraj Kapil made his entrance at about 75 minutes to midnight with Humma humma and moved on to Bulleya, Jugni, Gulabi aankhein, O o jaane jaana, Mere rashke qamar, Ban ja rani, Kala chashma, Ainvayi ainvayi,  Sunny sunny, Hookah bar, Selfie le le re.... While Dil lutiya got people dancing around the table, everyone on the dance floor had their hands up for Saturday Saturday.
