Despite its love affair with all things sweet, Calcutta had not been home to a hotel with a patisserie dedicated to authentic Bengali sweets. This is where Holiday Inn Kolkata comes to the rescue, with its Royal Bengal Sweet Company — a first-of-its-kind patisserie that specialises in sweets that are exclusive to the districts of Bengal, giving their guests an idea about the traditional sweet treats that the state has to offer.
“We would have guests at our hotel often asking us to direct them to confectioneries where they could get authentic Bengali sweets. This is where the idea for such a patisserie stems from,” said Suman Chakraborty, F&B director, Holiday Inn Kolkata Airport.

Following his “sweet trail” across Bengal, which covered several districts from Malda to Burdwan, Chakraborty researched the sweets authentic to these places and the most traditional ways of making them. That’s how the Royal Bengal Sweet Company came about.
