Trai gives high marks to RPG, AirTel

New Delhi, April 21 (PTI): Cellular players AirTel and RPG in Chennai topped the list of metro operators with 93 per cent of subscribers saying they were satisfied with the overall services offered by them.

Hutch in Chennai and AirTel in Delhi got 91 per cent rating in terms of subscriber satisfaction followed by Bharat Sanchar Nigam Ltd (BSNL) in Chennai with 90 per cent rating.

BSNL’s services in Calcutta were rated the least satisfactory with 61 per cent rating, as per the Telecom Regulatory Authority of India’s (Trai) quality of service assessment for cellular operators.

In the basic telecom services category, Sunil Mittal’s Bharti group topped the list for its services in Delhi under the brand name Touchtel attracting 90 per cent rating followed by BSNL in Chennai at 89 per cent and MTNL in Mumbai at 84 per cent.

In the A category circle comprising Maharashtra, Andhra Pradesh, Gujarat and Tamil Nadu among others, Tata Teleservices in Maharashtra bagged 92 per cent rating for its basic services followed by Bharti in Andhra Pradesh.

In case of cellular operations in the A category circles, 93 per cent of Hutch subscribers in Gujarat expressed satisfaction over the quality of services while 91 per cent subscribers voted for AirTel.

In B category circles comprising Haryana, Madhya Pradesh, Kerala and Punjab among others, Bharti led the race with 88 per cent rating in Haryana among other basic operators. BSNL got the second rank with 86 per cent of its subscribers expressing satisfaction over its services.

For cellular services in the B category circles, Idea was on the top with 91 per cent of subscribers in Madhya Pradesh voting in favour of its overall quality of service.

The survey was conducted by IMRB for the period of October to December 2003, Trai said in a release here.
