Raining SUVs in Indian auto market

Latest avatar in the D-segment SUV, is only the second generation Scorpio christened Scorpio-N

It will be raining SUVs in the Indian auto market as original equipment manufacturers (OEM) gear up to make the most of the upcoming festive season.

First to go off the block is Mahindra’s Scorpio N, which will debut on June 27. The second generation SUV will coexist along with the older generation, which will be christened as Scorpio Classic.

Following Scorpio N, is Maruti’s new Brezza that will be launched on June 30.

And right on its heels, the Toyota HyRyder, a jointly developed mid-segment SUV with Suzuki, will be unveiled on July 1.

Maruti will launch the cross-badged SUV that it has developed in August.

Scorpio has been the most popular brand for Mahindra having been launched in 2002.

The Scorpio predates the Bolero and brought a whole new level of sophistication to Mahindra products that previously had SUVs such as the Armada.

The latest avatar in the D-segment SUV, is only the second generation Scorpio christened Scorpio-N, which is being touted by Mahindra as the “big daddy of SUVs”.

“It will be offered in both diesel and gasoline options,with manual and automatic transmissions and 4x4 drives, according to the company release.

“Engineered grounds-upthe new Scorpio is built on anew body-on frame platformand has been developed by engineers at Mahindra’s re-search centres in Chennai and the US and at the design studio in Mumbai. R. Velusamy, president, automotive technology and product development, M&M Ltd, said.
