Mumbai, March 18 :    Mumbai, March 18:  Neville House, which has until now served as the headquarters of Bombay Dyeing and Manufacturing Company Ltd, is being transformed into the nerve centre for the entire Nusli Wadia group of companies. This is part of the restructuring process initiated by the UK-based Warwick Management Group (WMG) which was called in over two years ago by the Rs 1024 crore textile major to revive the fortunes of the Wadia group. The move is significant as this is the first time that the Wadias are viewing the stable of companies as one group. ?Neville House will be the functional headquarters for the entire Wadia group,? a source close to the management said. The top brass including their support teams will be housed in this building, he added.Confirming the move, a Bombay Dyeing official said Neville House will have a similar status as Bombay House does for the Tata group of companies. The top brass and the officials heading five functional areas will be based at Neville House, he confided. The Wadia group comprises nine companies including Bombay Dyeing, the 120-year-old flagship, National Peroxide, Citurgia Chemicals and Bombay Burmah. Five group companies are unlisted. These are Gherzi Eastern, a real estate joint venture with a Swiss major, Afco Industrial & Chemicals, Archway Investments, Scal Investments and Dental Products of India. Their interests range from light engineering, health care, real estate and chemicals to trading, foods, laminates and plantations. Britannia, the food products company in which the Wadias hold 22 per cent, will also have close links with the group. Groupe Danone of France also holds 22 per cent in the company and it therefore, technically, cannot come within the Wadia fold. However, Britannia?s top brass may also have an office in this granite stone building. WMG?s role in the restructuring the Wadia group is being closely watched by corporate cognoscenti. Already, Telco has hired WMG to help it draw up a business process re-engineering programme. Nusli Wadia?s two sons, Jeh and Ness, are also being trained at Warwick University. Observers say that after the training they will be inducted to play a bigger role in the group. Sources say Bombay Dyeing is now focusing on branded products. The company has recently introduced Forest Hills, a casual wear line, and Princeton, a formal wear range. Bombay Dyeing has interests in petrochemicals too. The company manufactures di-methyl terephthalate (DMT) but the margins have come under intense pressure lately due to declining global prices. The buzz in the textile industry is that the Wadias are now looking for a joint venture partner in this area of business though the company has denied it.
