Tamluk, Jan. 27: The owner of a company engaged in the recycling of waste oil today sent an e-mail to the Calcutta Port Trust authorities and the CBI alleging that activists belonging to the Indian National Trinamul Trade Union Congress (INTTUC) did not allow his representative to submit a tender for the lifting of waste oil at the Haldia Dock Complex.
Sanjay Mathur, proprietor of Sejal Sales Corporation, said in a statement that INTTUC activists led by Shyamal Adak did not allow his representative to enter the marine operation division of the Haldia Dock Complex.
“Reaching the office of marine operation division, my representative found that around 40-50 people had laid siege outside the office to stop bidders. The scheduled time for submitting tender was 1pm today. My representative waited up to 2.30pm but could not submit the tender,” the statement said.
Shyamal Adak was not available for comment.
A police officer said late tonight a representative of Sejal Sales along with those of three other companies lodged a complaint at the Haldia police station.
However, the INTTUC was not mentioned in the complaint.
The working president of the INTTUC in Haldia, Shibnath Sarkar, said, “The allegation is baseless. No INTTUC members stopped anyone from submitting tender at the office of marine operation division today.”
Around 2,000-2,200 vessels visit the Haldia Dock Complex per annum, while around 1,200 vessels arrive at the Calcutta Dock System.
All of them discharge waste oil and oily water at the docks.
Around 18,000 kilolitre of waste oil, engine oil and oily water are generated in this way.
In the past, waste oil used to be disposed of through private parties on a nomination basis, which deprived Calcutta Port Trust of around Rs 18 crore a year.
A tender process has finally begun at the Calcutta Dock System, wherein contracts are given to the bidder paying the highest to the port for lifting these items.
However, at the Haldia Dock Complex, where the bulk of waste oil is generated, the port is not earning anything.
