Emami expands in Assam

Emami Ltd, the fast moving consumer goods company, has commissioned another facility in Assam, set up at an investment of Rs 300 crore. Located in Pachari, in Kamrup district, the plant is spread across 34 acres and will cater to all its distributors across the country.

Guwahati: Emami Ltd, the fast moving consumer goods company, has commissioned another facility in Assam, set up at an investment of Rs 300 crore. Located in Pachari, in Kamrup district, the plant is spread across 34 acres and will cater to all its distributors across the country.

The unit will make personal care and healthcare brands. Including the new unit, the company has eight manufacturing plants in Bengal, Assam, Uttarakhand, Maharashtra, Gujarat, Dadra and Nagar Haveli. The company also has a manufacturing presence in Bangladesh.

R.S. Agarwal and R.S. Goenka, joint chairmen of the diversified Rs 50,000-crore Emami group, in a statement said Assam would remain a preferred manufacturing location for the group. Emami already has two units at Abhoypur and Amingaon in Assam, prior to the new Pacharia unit.

"Our future investments would be in line with the market demand and Assam, being an investor friendly destination, would always remain a preferred manufacturing location for Emami," a company statement said.

Sushil Goenka, managing director, Emami Limited said the company was mulling a vendors' park at Baihata .

Assam finance minister Himanta Biswa Sarma said the investments by several companies speak of a new confidence in Assam. "There is now tremendous political will towards supporting industrial development of the state," he said and added that there were new areas of investment for Emami in Assam.

Sarma said preferential treatment would be given to investors willing to set up shop in Assam. "We will announce more concessions at the Global Investors' Summit in February next year for those who want to invest in the state."

Chief minister Sarbananda Sonowal asked the Emami group to participate in the summit and use the platform to tell their success story in Assam.
