New Delhi, July 29: Tata Motors-owned Jaguar Land Rover (JLR) will launch the Jaguar XE in London on September 6. The body parts of the premium sedan will be largely made of aluminum, which will make it light.

“The Jaguar XE will use a new grade of high strength aluminium called ‘RC 5754’, which has been developed specifically for the XE,” the company said.

“This new alloy features a high level of recycled material and makes a significant contribution to Jaguar’s goal of using 75 per cent recycled material by 2020.”

“The Jaguar XE body uses over 75 per cent aluminium, which far exceeds any other car in its class,” Jaguar’s chief technical specialist Mark White said. “We’ve made sure our aluminium-intensive body structure exceeds all global safety standards without compromising on vehicle design or refinement.”

Designed and engineered in the UK, the car will be the first Jaguar to be manufactured at the new Solihull plant in West Midlands. The company said the XE was projected to deliver a fuel efficiency of less than four litres per 100km on EU combined cycle.

JLR has been focusing on lightweight construction for its Jaguar brand. The Jaguar XJ, XK and F-Type have been developed using aluminium structures. The XE is the latest model to use aerospace-inspired technology in cars.

Tata Motors is working with JLR to roll out a line of cars in India.

The first product of the two companies will be a 1.2-litre turbocharged petrol engine that will power the soon-to-be-launched Zest compact sedan and Bolt hatchback. Jaguar recently launched the Jaguar XJ in India. The company plans to invest £45 million at its Halewood operations, near Liverpool, to meet growing demand in India and Southeast Asia.
