Consumer price index plummets The rate of inflation based on the consumer price index fell to 9.4 per cent in January from 15.3 per cent in December 1998. The inflation rate fell drastically by 5.9 percentage points during the month as the all-India consumer price index for industrial workers (CPI-IW) decreased to 420 in January from 429 in December.
