BPL in pact with Sanyo

Bangalore, July 27: BPL and Sanyo Electric Company of Japan has floated a 50:50 joint venture for colour television business in India. Investment required for the new company will be approximately Rs 500 crore, including the Rs 370-crore colour television business to be transferred by BPL. The firm will manufacture colour televisions initially and later move on to other consumer electronic products.

NPIL brand

Mumbai, July 27: Nicholas Piramal India Ltd (NPIL) has acquired the Dobutrex brand rights for the Indian market from Eli Lily & Company, USA, for an undisclosed sum. This is in line with NPIL’s objective of selective and strategic brand acquisitions to reinforce its portfolio in key therapeutic segments.

WTO talks

New Delhi, July 27: India has taken a tough stand on the contentious agriculture issue at the WTO talks in Geneva and asserted that there would be no compromise on issues that affected the livelihood concerns of millions of farmers in the country.

Power policy

New Delhi, July 27: The power ministry has favoured more steps to promote private investments, including ensuring returns on a par with other sectors, indicating a review of the present mechanism of a fixed 14 per cent return on equity.

VAT meet

New Delhi, July 27: Traders, who are opposing the implementation of value-added tax (VAT) in the present form, will decide on the future course of action after their meeting with chairman of the empowered committee of the state finance ministers Asim Dasgupta next month.

Jet move

Mumbai, July 27: Jet Airways has revamped its frequent flyer programme to make it more innovative and accessible for its 3.5 lakh members. The plan comes into effect from August 1, chief operating officer Peter Luethi said.

CESC debt

Calcutta, July 27: CESC Limited has brought down its total debts by Rs 383.72 crore in 2003-04 by restructuring its debts with a group of 24 lenders.
