A three-day workshop will be conducted from Tuesday to inform college heads about the parameters they have to meet to receive funds from the UGC.

According to the new norms, if a college seeks funds from the UGC it has to get accredited by the National Assessment and Accreditation Council (Naac).

The state education department has asked colleges and universities to attend the workshop, which will be addressed by representatives from the UGC and World Bank.

Education department special secretary and Bihar State Educational Infrastructure Development Corporation managing director Sanjeevan Sinha said: “The workshop, to be held at JD Women’s College, will be attended by principals or their representatives.”

The UGC representatives will discuss the parameters on the basis of which colleges can get Naac accreditation.

Sinha added: “Apart from getting funds from the UGC, if a college or university is accredited, it is recognised nationally and also opens doors for national and international agencies to get involved with the institutes.”

Moreover, not only the UGC but also the newly constituted Rashtriya Uchchatar Shiksha Abhiyan (Rusa) has made the Naac score mandatory for colleges.

Keeping in mind the UGC and state government directives, many universities have already started the process of getting Naac accreditation.

Patna University has prepared two committees for Naac accreditation — college committee headed by vice-chancellor Arun Kumar Sinha as chairman and Magadh Mahila College principal Dolly Sinha as member-secretary and the university committee led by statistics department head Amarendra Mishra as chairman and economics department head Asha Singh as member-secretary.

The 150-year-old Patna College has recently written a letter of intent to the UGC seeking Naac grade, said principal Rash Bihari Prasad Singh.
