Patna, Aug. 3: To do the right work at the right time is the key to success.
This is the advice that Bharati Bagchi, the co-ordinator of commerce department of Magadh Mahila College, had for first-year BCom students, for whom an induction meet had been organised on the college premises today.
“You should know how to do the right thing at the right time. You should always perform your duties. Then, success will be yours,” said Bagchi.
She added: “Try to be a complete woman and a good citizen.”
Besides her, Dolly Sinha, the principal of the college, former co-ordinator of the commerce department Asha Singh, Patna University vocational course chief co-ordinator Arun Kumar Sinha, and Vanijya Mahavidyalaya principal Umesh Mishra were present at the programme
Asha, who is responsible for establishing the commerce department, recalled its inception.
She also said: “Only bookish knowledge is not enough for a student. She needs to be cultured, noble as well as a good citizen. To gain an academic degree does not mean the person has also gained good qualities.”
Asha was also all praises for the principal of the college, who, she said, was dynamic and energetic.
“Your library is well stocked with books and journals. You have a very good faculty as well. This means that you have all that is necessary to reach your goals. You just need to know how to use the resources available,” she added.
She advised the students to be disciplined to attain the goals they have set for themselves.
Dolly Sinha, the principal of Magadh Mahila College, said: “I congratulate the freshers who have been admitted to this premier college where excellence is tradition. Each student of this college is treated with special care.”
She said: “Students must have three qualities if they want to succeed — academic excellence, emotional strength and physical stamina.
“While academic excellence is the supreme of all the three qualities, I believe emotional strength and physical stamina are also important for success in life.”
College cabinet general secretary Anupama introduced the other members of the body.
She said: “The cabinet members are responsible for maintaining discipline and arranging programmes in the college. Students can contact them at any time if they face any problem during college hours.”
Umesh Mishra, the principal of Vanijya Mahavidyalaya, who was the chief guest on the occasion, spoke about the importance of commerce nowadays and how it has been gaining popularity among students.
“Many cheap books of commerce are available in the market. However, you must be careful before you choose your book. Be sure to choose only a new edition and not a re-print of an older one. Also feel free to ask questions in class,” he said.
Students, too, were very excited to begin the new session at the commerce department of the college.
