Gaya, Sept. 12: Gaya police are set to get a hi-tech boost with their new boss planning a website for the force.

Senior superintendent of police (SSP) Nishant Kumar Tiwari has decided to develop a website for the Gaya police with help from the National Informatics Centre.

Information on the number of pending cases in different police stations in the district or the latest updates in important cases will be posted on the website regularly.

Officers believe the website will bring transparency in policing as they can have data on cases that have occurred in the district on their fingertips.

At present, districts such as Patna, Arwal, Supaul and Gopalganj have their websites.

This would not be Tiwari’s first brush with technology. A software engineer, who had worked in the US before joining the force, Tiwari had developed a computerised command system when he was the West Champaran superintendent of police between 2010 and 2011.

The system kept tabs on personnel being shifted or deployed during the 2010 Assembly elections and avoided a pick-and-choose policy when it came to the transfer of officers during his tenure in the district.

Tiwari said: “There is some carelessness among the police officers posted in the district (Gaya). There is a tendency among them to keep cases pending for unwarranted reasons. But such behaviour will not be tolerated. The station house officers have been directed to dispose of the pending cases on priority basis according to their merit.”

The SSP has also directed the officers to maintain cleanliness. He took charge of Gaya on August 30.

Gaya assumes importance from the security point of view, as lakhs of tourists and pilgrims visit the world heritage Mahabodhi Mahavihara and the Vishnupad Temple.

Tiwari said the police personnel deputed in and around the heritage site in Bodhgaya will be made more tourist-friendly.

“Tourists from across the world visit Bodhgaya every year. There is a need for the cops to be proactive and friendly with them,” he said.

On the deployment of Central Industrial Security Force at the Mahabodhi Mahavihara, he said senior officers of the central force have carried out inspection in and around the temple and have identified areas where the CISF jawans will be given accommodation.

The CISF will soon take charge of the security of the Mahabodhi Mahavihara.

At present, the Bihar Military Police (BMP), special task force and the police are deployed to ensure the security at the world heritage temple.

The BMP jawans have been accommodated at Nyingma monastery.

However, in the wake of the Pitripaksha Mela beginning in Gaya from September 18, the district administration has asked them to vacate the monastery to ensure accommodation to the pilgrims.

Asked about alternative accommodation arrangements for the BMP jawans, Tiwari said it would be decided after a discussion with the district administration officers.
