Patna, July 14: The state BJP leadership today made an attempt to woo voters promising more benefits to the government employees on contract if it was voted to power.

Addressing people on the occasion of the BJP's Bankipore Assembly constituency meet at SK Memorial Hall, former deputy chief minister Sushil Kumar Modi said: "Nitish Kumar has made an announcement to increase the salary of Vikas Mitras from Rs 7,000 to Rs 10,000 (per month). If the BJP forms the government, salaries of Vikas Mitras would be increased to Rs 12,000 (per month)."

The contract employees (teachers and others) were promised nearly 20 per cent hike from the revised salaries the present government would announce soon.

Modi's statement is being seen in political circles as an attempt by the BJP to woo the employees working on contract. The Nitish Kumar-led state government would soon announce their revised salaries based on the report submitted by a committee headed by chief secretary Anjani Kumar Singh.

The meeting of the Bankipore constituency, represented by BJP MLA Nitin Navin, was a part of the party's strategy to hold conferences in all the 243 Assembly constituencies in the state. The BJP has so far organised 160 such conferences.

Union minister Ravi Shankar, Leader of Opposition in the Assembly Nand Kishore Yadav, BJP state in-charge Bhupendra Yadav and newly appointed state co in-charge C.R. Patil attended the Assembly conference.
