The district administration conducted an awareness drive at Mahant Darshan Das Mahila College on Tuesday to educate its students about the importance of getting their names enrolled in the voters’ list and procuring their voters’ identity cards.

The exercise was carried out under the systematic voters’ education and electoral participation (SVEEP) according to the Election Commission of India’s (ECI) directive to increase enrolment of eligible girl students in the voters’ list.

Following the ECI guidelines, district magistrate (DM) Anupam Kumar had launched a month-long special revision drive of electoral list from November 1. Deputy development commissioner (DDC) Tanuj Kunwal, entrusted by the DM, held the awareness camp with the help of district election office officials.

The DDC said a booth-level officer would visit the college on November 23 and request the girls to fill up forms to incorporate their names in the voters’ list. Those who find their names at more than one booth may also go for the deletion process. Draft publication of new voters who apply for addition would be published on January 15, 2015.
