Patna/Motihari: A minor girl from West Champaran district is in hospital, having developed psychiatric problems after a video showing some youths misbehaving with her went viral online a few days ago.
The traumatised girl has been admitted to a hospital in Gorakhpur in neighbouring Uttar Pradesh for treatment.
Her mother went to the Sikarpur police station in West Champaran district, around 270 km northwest of Patna, on Thursday and narrated her tale of woes.
According to the complaint, four youths of the village misbehaved with the girl when she had gone to attend the call of nature in a sugarcane field on August 19.
The men also filmed the incident and uploaded it on a social networking site on August 22.
When the girl came to know about the video, she couldn't bear the trauma.
She started behaving abnormally with family members and was rushed to the primary health centre from where she was referred to the Gorakhpur hospital.
Sikarpur police station house officer (SHO) Jitendra Kumar said that a complaint has been lodged against Ramesh Kumar, Sudhir Paswan, Balbachan Bari and Jhaplal Karmakar, all stated to be residents of DK Sikarpur village.
"Raids are underway to nab the accused," the SHO said. He said that the girl's family would be provided all possible help.
He didn't rule out the possibility that the girl was sexually assaulted. "The medical report will confirm whether that happened or not," he said.
The girl, police sources said, is unable to walk or speak. "The police will record the victim's statement after her condition improves," said an investigating officer.
There has been a spate of shocking crimes against women in Bihar in recent days.
On Wednesday, a 55-year-old woman returning to her in-laws' place after giving a rakhi for her brother was lynched in Rohtas district on suspicion that she was practising witchcraft.
On Monday, a middle-aged woman was stripped and paraded naked in Bhojpur district.
