Gopalganj, Sept. 24: A group of villagers from Chandparna locked up JD(U) MLA from Baikunthpur Manjit Singh in a house today to protest the alleged use of a banned drug on two snakebite victims, causing the duo’s death.

Residents of Chandparna under Sidhwalia police station sought action against a civil surgeon, who allegedly purchased the anti-venom drug banned by the Bihar government.

Sources said when the MLA reached the village around 6am the villagers held him hostage. The villagers sought compensation and job for the kin of the victims — Ranjan Singh and Prabhavati Devi. They allowed the MLA to leave after he pledged to look into their demands.
