Students applying to various colleges under Jai Prakash University this year would not have to pay different prices for admission forms.

The university has decided to print and distribute the forms at one price to the colleges. The decision was taken on Wednesday at a meeting of the principals of different colleges and university vice-chancellor Ram Vinod Sinha.

The vice-chancellor said the decision was taken after students complained that different constituent and affiliated colleges of the university charged different amounts for admission forms.

This year, the students would have to pay Rs 110 for each form they purchase. They would also have to shell out Rs 50 to buy information booklets of colleges.

The students are happy with the university’s decision. Shyamchak Mohalla resident Mukesh Kumar, who will apply to undergraduate courses this year, said: “Colleges often charge a lot of money for selling the forms. This decision of the university will help check that.”

Experts, however, claim that the regulation has its drawbacks. The co-convener of the association of the varsity’s research scholars, Vishvajit Singh Chandel, said: “The university should provide centralised forms and also publish the merit list itself.”
