Bhim Rao Ambedkar Bihar University has rescinded its 2008 decision to appoint the examination co-ordinator from other universities of the state for evaluation of answer books of postgrad- uate courses.

The university plans to conduct a centralised evaluation of copies belonging to postgraduate disciplines from next year.

Members of the examination board of the university discussed the issue following detection of huge number of copies belonging to postgraduate courses that remained unexamined in 2012 by external co-ordinator Ramendra Kumar Singh.

Singh is a teacher in Anugrah Narayan College, Patna, a constituent unit of Magadh University, Bodhgaya. Members of the board and university officials, including vice-chancellor Ravi Verma, pro-vice-chancellor Rajendra Prasad, registrar Vivekanand Shukla, examination controller Arun Kumar Singh and Ramchandra Singh, T.N. Singh and P.K. Rai pledged to strengthen the system of evaluation of copies during a two-hour meeting on Tuesday.

Vice-chancellor Ravi Verma on Tuesday reminded his counterpart at Magadh University, Nand Jee Kumar, about not receiving the explanation sought from the examination co-ordinator, Ramendra Kumar Singh, in this connection.

The vice-chancellor said the board has made up its mind to rescind the system of appointing examination co-ordinator for evaluation of answer books from other universities.

The copies of postgraduate courses would only be examined at the university headquarters in a centralised manner.

The university officials would keep a strict eye on the evaluation process. The university has decided to involve examiners from other universities of the state. The examiners would be paid travelling allowance besides other expenses. The examination controller has been entrusted with the task of preparing a panel of examiners from other universities for the evaluation of copies of postgraduate courses.

Senior teachers posted in postgraduate departments will only be made examiners for evaluating copies of postgraduate courses.

Meanwhile, members of the examination board have authorised the vice-chancellor for setting up a probe at the university-level for in-depth investigation of identifying unchecked copies of postgraduate courses.

Registrar Vivekanand Shukla said a thorough probe should be conducted to look into the answer books returned to the university.

The examination was conducted in August, 2012. The university appointed Ramendra Kumar Singh of AN College, Patna, as co-ordinator for evaluation of copies.

Later, it detected that hundreds of copies in postgraduate disciplines had remained unchecked but the examiners had put good marks in the marks column on the top page of the answer books.

The university announced the results early this year and distributed marksheets to the students on that basis. Members have also pleaded for drastic action against the co-ordinator for his alleged gross negligence and carelessness.
