Former city superintendent of police (SP) Kim on Wednesday said the cops were “very close” to crack the murder case of Pappu Yadav, kin of former RJD MP Subhash Yadav. She wished that the case had been solved during her tenure as the city SP.

New city SP Jayant Kant, however, promised her that all the pending cases would be solved. As unsolved criminal cases pile up, Kant, a 2009-batch IPS officer from Lucknow, said his priority in Patna would be to crack the “important pending cases through proper investigation and detection”.

Kant, who took charge on Wednesday from Kim, said: “I have worked under her (Kim) as an additional superintendent of police. Now, I am fortunate to have got the opportunity to work in the state capital. The pending works need to be solved without delay. The people’s satisfaction is important. They should feel that there is proper policing in Patna. I will strive for it,” Kant said, adding that proper monitoring of cases coming to the janata darbars was also important.

He accepted that the new jurisdiction was a challenge for him. “The responsibility is challenging but I am up for it,” Kant said.
