Patna, June 1: Frequent power cuts owing to inclement weather would soon be a thing of the past, as Pesu would lay underground cables in the capital.
According to Patna Electric Supply Undertaking (Pesu) officials, the work would be complete in three years’ time and would cover more than 50 per cent the capital’s area. Among Pesu’s 10 divisions, underground cables have been laid in parts of its New Capital division, which houses Vidyut Bhavan, Patna High Court, the new and old secretariats, Raj Bhavan among others.
However, the cost involved is a hurdle in carrying out the scheme. Pesu general manager-cum-chief engineer Vijay Kumar said: “The underground cable can ensure smooth power supply but involves huge cost. We plan to extend the facility to other parts of the capital in the future under the Centre’s restructured accelerated power development and reforms programme.” On Monday and Friday, residents were forced to sit through darkness as the power had tripped because of pre-monsoon rain.
