Patna: Two more suspects, including a juvenile, were taken into custody on Friday for their alleged involvement in the molestation of a minor girl at a deserted place falling under the jurisdiction of Bhelawar police outpost in Jehanabad district on April 25 this year.
The total number of arrests in the case has now gone up to 13, which includes eight juveniles. The police also claimed to have seized the two mobiles used by the alleged offenders to videograph the act.
Inspector-general (Patna zone) Nayyar Hasnain Khan on Friday reviewed the investigation into the incident, which came to the fore after a video showing the girl being disrobed and sexually assaulted went viral on social networking sites.
Deputy inspector-general (Magadh range) Vinay Kumar and Jehanabad superintendent of police Manish Kumar were among the police officers present at the review meeting. Khan said all the accused, including the youth who was accompanying the victim on the fateful day, had been arrested.
Twenty-year-old Arvind Kumar, a resident of Khalispur village under the jurisdiction of Kako police station in Jehanabad district, had lured the girl to visit the deserted road leading to Bharathua village. Arvind and the girl were seen in a suspicious condition, which prompted some residents to indulge in sexually harassing her.
"Of the 13 accused, eight are stated to be minors. The juvenile, who was taken into custody on Friday, is stated to be a resident of Nawasa village, while the remaining 12 belonged to Bharathua village. The motorbike on which the girl was taken to the site of occurrence has been seized," IG Khan told The Telegraph.
The IG has directed the Jehanabad SP Manish to file the chargesheet in the case at the earliest as all the accused in the case have been arrested. "The investigating officer of the case has been asked to gather scientific evidence against the accused so that they could be prosecuted," he added.
During interrogation, Arvind admitted that he had brought the girl to the place with wrong intention. The arrested accused included those who were seen in the video and recording the action of the offenders. The girl's statement was earlier recorded in the local court under Section 164 of CrPC.
IG Khan said he had directed the members of the special investigation team (SIT), which was formed by the former to crack the case, to file the chargesheet by end-May and ensure speedy trial of the accused. The police had lodged an FIR on March 29 on the statement of sub-inspector Shyam Sundar Singh, posted at Jehanabad Town police station. The IG has directed the Jehanabad SP to supervise the case.
Four suspects were arrested from Bharathua village, which led to the arrest of others involved in the crime.
