Patna, Nov. 15: Two women, including a warden at a Muzaffarpur-based desti- tute rehabilitation home, were arrested and forwa- rded to jail today for alle- gedly helping a youth who sexually exploited and impregnated a teenaged girl.

Mamta, a warden at Muzaffarpur-based North Raksha Grih, and her assistant, Rakhi, were arrested and produced before the chief judicial magistrate, who remanded them in judicial custody at the Shaheed Khudi Ram Bose Memorial Central Jail for two weeks.

The police, however, are yet to trace the youth, identified as Indrajeep, who allegedly exploited the girl after promising to marry her.

A police team today questioned his mother for several hours to ascertain his whereabouts. He is reportedly absconding after the girl complained of her pregnancy on Monday.

Muzaffarpur senior superintendent of police (SSP) Saurabh Kumar said two separate FIRs have been lodged in connection with the incident.

The first FIR was lodged on the basis of the victim’s statement and the second on the statement of some inmates of the rehabilitation centre.

The inmates had complained to a state women’s commission team about ill-treatment after they refused to follow the diktats of the centre’s officials.

A two-member team headed by Manju Kumari recorded their statement during a visit to the centre on Thursday.

The victim, said to be a Delhi resident, was taken to the Shri Krishna Medical College and Hospital for ultra-sonography. But the test could not be conducted as the doctors were on leave, today being a holiday.

“The test would be conducted tomorrow,” an investigating officer said.

The officer, who didn’t wish to be named, said the test would reveal the age of the foetus.

“We can’t go by the victim’s version alone,” he said, adding that her medical examination would help police solve the case.

Darbhanga senior superintendent of police (SSP) Kumar Aikley said he would visit Muzaffarpur in a day or two to record the girl’s statement.

SSP Aikley has been assigned to probe the incident and submit a detailed report to the state police headquarters.

“I talked to the victim over phone yesterday. I will soon visit the rehabilitation centre,” the Darbhanga SSP told The Telegraph over telephone on Friday.

The girl is at present lodged in Muzaffarpur Childline, a rehabilitation centre she was shifted to from Darbhanga after a Government Railway Police team rescued her.

The victim and another inmate had fled the Muzaffarpur based rehabilitation centre on September 28.
