Patna, March 4: The probe into the daylight murder of businessman Ajay Shankar Tiwary hit a roadblock today after a ruckus erupted at the 1st Women’s World Cup Kabaddi tournament in the city.

A day after the 40-year-old man was killed barely few yards from his residence in Patrakar Nagar Colony, police said they had little time for “routine work” as they were busy controlling the crowd at the Patliputra Sports Complex. A senior officer of Patrakar Nagar police station said: “We didn’t get time for investigation into the murder case as we were called to the Patliputra Sports Complex where things went awry before the closing ceremony of women’s kabaddi tournament.”

The senior officer also said he could give information on the investigation only after the kabaddi tournament was over.

The family members of the victim were as clueless as the police about the motive behind the murder.

Dev Shankar Tiwary, the brother of Ajay, said: “My brother had no enmity with anyone. His was doing well in his business. I have no idea if he had ever received any extortion call.”

Ajay was the distributor of lubricant oil and had two shops — one near Tiwary Bechar and the other one at Zero Mile on the Patna-Gaya route.

Sources said there was tension between Ajay’s family and his in-laws, as the former had married a girl from another caste against the will of the two families.

Ajay’s family members claimed that the differences were sorted out long ago. Ajay had two children, including an 11-year old boy and a one-and-a-half years old daughter.

Police sources said they were not ruling out business rivalry or family dispute as the reason behind the murder.
