Patna: The blackboards of Patna Medical College have over the years witnessed the passionate romantic stories of the old boys and girls of the premier medical college. This is what was revealed during the alumni meet of the 1965 batch of the college on Saturday.
"Many love stories blossomed in Patna Medical College and many of them had association with the classroom blackboards. There were many instances when some MBBS student had grown some romantic feeling towards one of his female classmates but he would not express his feelings towards her. However, one thing which many of them did silently was that whenever they found their crush getting more friendly with some male batchmate, they used to write their lady love's name on the blackboard while leaving a warning message for them that they should stop getting close to a particular guy. Many of our female classmates' names have been appeared on the blackboards when we were in college," said neuro-physician and Padma Shri recipient Dr. Gopal Prasad Sinha, a 1965 batch alumnus of Patna Medical College, during the alumni meet at Bankipore Club on Saturday.
Sinha's statement sent his pals into peals of laughter during the reunion meet.
Sinha added: "Many times teachers used to find these types of message on blackboard but they only used to smile after seeing them."
Sinha said the old boys of the premier medical college used to lead their lives nothing short of that of a film hero during their times. "We all used to think ourselves as actors such as Dilip Kumar, Dev Anand and Dharmendra. The romantic scenes depicted in the old movies were replicated in real life by the medicos. There used to be around 50 girls in our batch. Many of the boys had a crush on some girl or the other but they felt shy to express their love. There was a lot of silent attraction for the first three years. The college had its own boats at the Jal Vihaar Ghat. The couples often used to go on a boat ride and used to go on the diara side to spend some cosy moments. There were many who missed their class during such occasions," said Sinha.
Binay Bahadur Sinha, a 1965 alumnus, and one of the organisers of the event shared how initial anatomy classes used to be difficult for the students. "The students used to be allocated different parts of the dead body for dissection. Initially many used to fear and thoughts like life had become hell also used to come to our minds but then we adjusted ourselves and everything become easy for us," said Sinha.
"Every year the alumni meet for the 1965 batch is held on the eve of the foundation day programme on February 24. This year among the batchmates who participated in the alumni meet were noted surgeon AA Hai, Pramila Modi, Sheo Kumar Prasad, and Noor Jahan. Two of our batchmates, Ranjeet Prasad and Ram Raman, both from London and Manoranjan Prasad from Jamshedpur had also come," added Binay.
Binay said the programme started with paying tribute to six of his batchmates who passed in past one year, including Sant Chaudhary, Birendra Nath Tiwary, Rameshwar Jha, Asmanjay Roy among others.
"The alumni meet becomes a special occasion for us because many of our classmates live in different cities and even abroad. The alumni meet gives a perfect occasion to meet and relieve the old memories," he said.
