Medicine-induced abortion, especially in the fifth month of pregnancy, should be done only in consultation with one’s doctor, said city-based gynaecologist Sarika Roy on Sunday.

She was one of the doctors who addressed various issues on the final day of the state-level conference organised by Bihar Obstetric and Gynaecological Society.

On infertility, Dr Himanshu Roy said it can be treated with in-vitro fertilisation, laser hatching and embryoscopy methods among others. He added that wrong lifestyle trends among men have led to an increase in cases of infertility or less sperm count.

Roy said: “Keeping mobiles in trouser pockets, wearing tight jeans, hypertension and poor food habits are reasons for infertility among men these days.”

Dr Arnav Basak from Calcutta said it’s important for doctors to advise mothers on use of contraceptives after delivery because many women think they cannot become pregnant till the time they breastfeed their child.
