Members of Legal Aid Clinic of Central University of South Bihar (CUSB) visited Jolbigha village in Gaya’s Tekhari block on November 22 to spread legal awareness among residents. The awareness drive was carried under the supervision of assistant professor of the law department, Deo Narayan Singh. Students spread awareness about the legal aspects related to welfare schemes run by the government. The group comprised students Prabhat, Subham, Prabhatdeep and Aditya from the seventh semester, Bablu, Abhinit, Saurabh, Abhimanyu and Namit from the fifth semester, the third semester students Abhijeet, Nikhil, Viveka and Priyaranjan and first semester students Rajeev, Rupali and Subham.

Students presented a variety of programmes, including a street play, before the villagers to make them aware about benefits for below poverty line families, women, children's safety act, Anganwadi, land disputes and public distribution system. 

Rupali, a student, said she didn't only teach people about their rights but also learnt about their problems too. “To know what ails the society is more important than just telling them what the government is doing for their benefits,” she said. 
“In the coming days, the activities of Legal Aid Clinic of CUSB would surely set a benchmark for the society and spread awareness among the masses on a broader scale for everyone's benefit,” said Singh. 

Education talk

Former director of Indian Institute of Technology (IIT), Kharagpur, K.L. Chopra, addressed students and teachers of Aryabhatta Knowledge University (AKU) on November 22. Chopra's mainly spoke about the condition of higher education in the country. Rakesh Kumar Singh, in-charge of the nano science centre of the AKU, pro-vice-chancellor of the university, S.M. Kareem, vice-chancellor Ajay Pratap were among dignitaries present on the occasion.

CIMP pride in Kerala 

The Kerala government had invited Chandragupt Institute of Management Patna (CIMP) faculty members to train directorate of distance education officers (DDEOs) and district education officers (DEOs). 

Rashtriya Madhyamik Shiksha Abhiyan, Kerala, and State Institute of Educational Management And Training (SIEMAT), Kerala, had organised a two-day management development programme for 35 participants at Thiruvananthapuram on November 22 and November 23. 

CIMP director V. Mukunda Das, who led the faculty team to Kerala, said: “We have already conducted similar training programmes for DEOs of Bihar successfully. Based on its excellent training track record, RMSA Kerala requested us to train DDEOs and DEOs of Kerala. This programme marks the beginning of CIMP’s management development programme activities outside the state.” 

During the training, CIMP faculty members told the participants about the various aspects of capacity building and leadership, said Das. “The training sessions included different topics such as management information system, innovations management in educational systems, leadership, e-governance, conflict management, motivation, time management among other topics.” 

NSS special camp 

Members of National Service Scheme (NSS) in Patna Women’s College organised a special camp on “Swachh Bharat Abhiyan: different aspects” at the college on Monday. 

Former Rajya Sabha MP Ramji Prasad Singh graced the programme. The programme began with a welcome song presented by the college choir. The students presented a skit on “Violence against women and its solution”. Ramji spoke on various social and moral issues and motivated the volunteers to arouse the feeling of love and service towards the society. NSS members held a seven-day (last Monday) camp in different localities to educate women about their rights and to raise their voice against any violence. 

College principal Sister Marie Jessie blessed the NSS volunteers for their successful task and told them not to only clean themselves from outside but to keep a clean heart. Sanskriti, an NSS volunteer, said the camp went very well. “We talk to women and listen to their problems and also provide them solutions. We also make them aware about their rights and also teach them to make their surrounding clean and tidy as far as possible,” said Sankriti. NSS coordinator Atul Aditya Pandey and Amita Jaiswal were also present at the event. 

Constitution Day 

Many competitive and non-competitive events were held during Central University of South Bihar’s (CUSB) celebrations on Constitution Day on November 26. Students from various departments took part in poem recitation, poster making, quiz and speech. Gaya additional chief judicial magistrate-cum-sub-judge Sanjay Kumar inaugurated the event. He attended the valedictory session and awarded the winners of various competitive events. 

Niyati Bharghava, a second-year biotechnology student, said: “These events help us know our constitutional rights, especially through quiz and speech competition. This was a wonderful experience and all students participated in various activities with enthusiasm.”
