Gynaecologists urged their colleagues not to impose any particular contraceptive on their patients and explain its advantages and side effects.
They made the suggestion on the concluding day of the three-day conference organised by Patna Obstetrics and Gynaecological Society on Sunday.
Abha Rani Sinha, a Patna Medical College and Hospital gynaecologist, said: 'The World Health Organisation (WHO) has fixed the medical eligibility criteria for the use of contraceptives that focuses on the medical and social history of women. The gynaecologists must take this criteria into account before suggesting contraceptives to women.'?
Commenting on the rise in the purchase of contraceptives, State Health Society gynaecologist Jyoti Agrawal said: 'There is nothing wrong if a woman uses contraceptives, but she should not take it regularly.'
Alka Pandey, the chairperson organising committee of Patna Obstetric and Gynaecological Society, said according to the WHO, caesarean section is required only in 15 per cent cases. But gynaecologists hardly abide by this norm and go for caesarean section in most cases, which has bad effects on women health. ?
