Patna, Aug. 24: The micro, small and medium enterprises, which are into manufacturing polymer products in Bihar, will not have to look north for raw materials.

The National Small Scale Industries Corporation has entered into an agreement with the Indian Oil Corporation Limited (IOC), under which they will be supplying raw materials to the small industries that manufacture plastic products.

The corporation has acquired a godown with a capacity of 200 tonnes, said C.K. Mishra, the joint secretary of the corporation, today.

“The godown has been opened to provide raw materials to micro, small and medium enterprises. The state’s market has been studied and there is a lot of scope for consumption of petrochemical products in the small and medium enterprises here,” Mishra said.

“An agreement has been sealed with the IOC. Once the godown is fully operational, raw materials will be available in the state and entrepreneurs will not have visit Panipat and Rajasthan for it,” he said during an interactive session with the entrepreneurs today.

The state-based entrepreneurs also demanded a calibration laboratory to test equipment. Such a laboratory is likely to be set up in the state capital in association with the Indian Institute of Technology-Patna.

“The equipment meant for different industries, especially medicine, needs to be calibrated. While setting up these laboratories is a costly process, the corporation can have a talk with the IIT-Patna and come up with a testing unit. The process regarding this would be initiated,” Mishra added.

He also asked the businessmen from the small-scale industry to learn more about the corporation and register their units with it.

Last year, the turnover of the corporation was Rs 11,000 crore and a major chunk of the same was from the supply of raw materials to the small and medium enterprises.

Patna is a growing market and with the new venture, the corporation can be said to be entering the state. The corporation can provide several kinds of raw materials to the small and medium enterprises.
