Patna, Sept. 27: Triple treats await the residents of the state capital this festive season — one on roads and two on the Ganga.

Come October 2, swanky radio cabs would roll on the city streets. From the same day, you can enjoy motorboat cruise and water-skiing on the Ganga. Chief minister Nitish Kumar would inaugurate all the three services on Gandhi Jayanti.

“Chief minister Nitish Kumar will inaugurate the radio taxi service at Samvad Bhavan (the state conference hall) at 11am on October 2. The same day, he will launch the motorboat cruise and water-skiing facilities at Gandhi Ghat at 12.30pm,” state tourism minister Sunil Kumar “Pintu” told The Telegraph today.

To avail the radio taxi service, he said, one would have to dial a toll-free centralised number. “It will be a 24x7 service. Once a call is registered at the centralised call centre, all details of the caller, including his or her name, location and mobile number, would be recorded in the system and sent across through radio waves. The taxi operator nearest to the caller’s location would respond to the call centre through radio sets fitted in their vehicles. Once this is done, the caller would receive a text on his or her cellphone about the arrival time of the taxi and its number,” the minister added.

The state tourism department is ready with 60 brand new white air-conditioned four-wheelers for introducing the radio taxi service. All the radio cabs would be fitted with electronic meters and global positioning system. The aim is to keep tabs on their movement and ensure passengers’ safety.

Two companies -— Leeway Logistics and Fleetex Transport — are providing 30 cars each to the Bihar State Tourism Development Corporation (BSTDC). The corporation would run the vehicles in a public-private-partnership mode. The toll-free number and the tariff of the radio-taxi service would be finalised shortly.

Besides its radio taxi plan, the BSTDC would roll out the motorboat cruise and water-skiing services at Gandhi Ghat on October 2. The corporation has received a consignment of motorboats and water-skiing equipment from Mumbai.
