Patna: RJD leader Tejashwi Prasad Yadav's dominance in Bihar politics was visible on Monday during the Bharat Bandh when most of the Opposition parties gathered at a place to register their anger against the steep rise in fuel prices.

It was for the first time in Bihar when the Congress, the RJD and the Left parties congregated at one platform for a cause sending the message of sturdy unity among the Opposition.

It was past 12.10pm when the leaders, gathered at Dakbungalow roundabout, were seen waiting anxiously for Tejashwi and there was a feeling that without his presence, the bandh wouldn't be a success. It was evident from the fact when RJD state president Ram Chandra Purbey announced on the public address system that Tejashwi will reach Income Tax roundabout in 10 minutes, the protesters, including the Congress and the Left leaders, started moving towards the circa to receive him.

Tejashwi spoke to most of the journalists waiting there, one by one, standing in the scorching heat for the next one-and-a-half hours. The Left and the Congress leaders were by his side. Once he finished giving media the bytes, the Bharat Bandh in Bihar came to an end.

The younger son of RJD chief Lalu Prasad used the occasion to slam Prime Minister Narendra Modi and chief minister Nitish Kumar in the same breath.

The Leader of Opposition in the Bihar Assembly said that until the Prime Minister stops thinking about his "capitalist friends", the prices of fuel will keep increasing.

"The Narendra Modi government does not think about the poor and the common man. They just think about their capitalist friends. The friends of the PM have fled the country after taking away the hard-earned money of the people," Tejashwi alleged.

He said the people are in deep pain and they will teach Narendra Modi a lesson in the days to come through voting.

"Every citizen has the right to raise their voice against this atrocious and insensitive government. Today they raised their voice through the Opposition's Bharat Bandh and today's bandh was the will of the people, as they are the ones who face hardships daily," Tejashwi said.

He did not spare Nitish either and ridiculed him for his silence on fuel price hike and asking him the reason behind his silence.

"Bihar ke mukhya mantri muh mein dahi jama ke baithe hai, petrol-diesel par kuch nahi bol rahe hai. Will he speak only when he gets less number of seats the way he spoke against demonetisation after one-and-a-half years into note ban? If chacha is a socialist then he must speak and if he has become a capitalist he can forget curd and make ice cream in his mouth," Tejashwi said.
