Patna: Leader of Opposition in the Assembly Tejashwi Prasad Yadav on Saturday continued with his tirade against chief Nitish Kumar, this time labelling him an "untrustworthy" person.
He also claimed that had his father, jailed RJD chief Lalu Prasad, compromised with the BJP, he (Tejashwi) would have become chief minister, replacing Nitish.
Tejashwi was speaking at a function organised by the fisheries cell of the RJD to mark the martyrdom day of Jubba Sahani, a revolutionary and freedom fighter.
Attacking the chief minister, Tejashwi said: "Nitish ji is an untrustworthy person, he made four governments in four years. Just because of the selfishness of Nitishji, the growth of the state has been affected. Nitish ji har ghat ka paani pee liye hai (Nitish has sipped water from every pond, a metaphor for the many different alliances the chief minister has struck over the years). Aisa koi saga nahi jisko hamare chacha ne thaga nahi (Nitish-uncle has ditched all those who were close to him)," Tejashwi said to loud applause from the audience at a packed S.K. Memorial Hall.
The cheers egged the young RJD leader on. "First, Nitish was with the Samata Party, then he went to the BJP, then left BJP and made Jitan Ram Manjhi CM, then sacked Manjhi and became CM, then he pleaded with Lalu Prasad, my father made him CM, then he ditched us and again went back to the BJP. He is now again singing a different tune," he said to another round of applause and laughter.
Tejashwi was referring to the recent statement of Nitish that he was willing to pay any price to preserve social unity.
The former deputy chief minister then said that like his father Lalu, he too would never compromise with his ideology. "Had Lalu ji compromised with his ideology vis-à-vis the BJP, don't you think that I would have become the chief minister of Bihar? But you check history: Laluji has never bowed in front of communal and fascist forces and nor will I ever compromise in life," Tejashwi said.
Lalu's younger son alleged that his father was implicated in a planned conspiracy.
"Nitish Kumar and the BJP knew very well that if my father stands like a rock, it would be not possible for them to do away with reservation, so it's better to send him to jail. From 1990 to 2018, only one person and one family has been targeted - that is Laluji," Tejashwi said.
He taunted Nitish for turning a deaf ear to the statement of union minister Anant Hegde, who has been quoted as saying that the BJP is here to change the Constitution.
