Patna: Former deputy chief minister and leader of the Opposition in the Assembly, Tejashwi Prasad Yadav, on Tuesday made a scathing attack on the Nitish Kumar government saying his education system had ruined the state.

Former education minister and JDU leader Ashok Choudhary, too, raised questions on the functioning of the board after students protested against anomalies in Intermediate results.

In a series of tweets, Tejashwi questioned the state education policy. "Nitish Kumar's trademark 'Show Degree, Get Contractual Job' formula has spoiled the education system, the future of two generations, quality training & teaching standards of Bihar. Ask anyone genuinely, they will tell the truth & difference." Tejashwi also questioned appointment of a large number of contract teachers in government schools when many had no knowledge how to teach.

The recently declared Intermediate results have raised questions on BSEB's functioning. Students have been protesting for the past few days over poor results. They are demanding rechecking of the answer sheets. They alleged that the board was negligent in evaluation of copy, leading to discrepancy in the results.

On Tuesday, Tejashwi also met Governor Satya Pal Malik and apprised him of the education system in the state. Sources said Tejashwi had gone to invite the governor to an iftar party on Wednesday when he spoke about education.

Later, talking to journalists, Tejashwi took a dig at BSEB chairman Anand Kishor without naming him. "Some of Nitish's performer bureaucrats have ruined the education system. These bureaucrats are playing with students' future."

For the past two days the state has been witnessing protests over discrepancies in Intermediate results. Tejashwi had tweeted: "There are many students who scored more than the maximum marks! But no one wants to plug the gaping holes. Nitish Ji must be ashamed of such repeated discrepancies occurring every year. If he isn't then he must apologise Every year there is Ghotala in Bihar Board results."

Not just the Opposition, even ruling party leaders have questioned BSEB's functioning. "The BSEB should take responsibility for poor Intermediate results," former education minister and JDU leader Ashok Choudhary said. "The BSEB chairman's post should be given to an academic."

A BJP leader said: "His questioning the board's functioning is hilarious as it was during his tenure as education minister that the Intermediate topper scam took place in 2016 and 2017, giving the state's edication system a bad name."
