Tension erupted in Khagaul's Nainchak area on Monday after a teenager allegedly mowed down a four-year-old girl and injured a five-year-old boy with his car.

Following the incident, angry residents blocked the Khagaul-Danapur area for more than three hours and demanded compensation for the victim's family apart from immediate arrest of the accused.

Sources said on Monday morning, four-year-old Akansha alias Ladli, and five-year-old Samar were playing outside Prithviraj's house alongside the village road.

Suddenly, a car came speeding into the narrow village lane and lost control before hitting the two children. While Akansha suffered head injuries and was killed on the spot because of excessive bleeding, Samar was rushed to Hitech Hospital, a private medical care unit at Saguna Mor, where he is undergoing treatment.

Investigations revealed that 18-year-old Shiv Prakash was the wheel of the car, while his friend Vinod Kumar (aged around 20) was sitting beside him.

Sources said Shiv was learning how to drive from Vinod. Eyewitnesses said the duo sped away in the car seeing a crowd gathering at the spot.

The girl's father, Prithviraj, a private photographer, said: "The accused must be arrested immediately. I lost my daughter due to the negligence of some youngsters."

The Khagaul station house officer said: "The police have registered a case of rash and negligence driving against the two youths. They are local boys and were learning how to drive."

While Shiv is the son of Shankar Choudhary, Vinod is the son of Ram Chander Choudhary. The Khagaul SHO said the police were conducting raids to nab the two.

"The police are also trying to find out whether the two possess valid driving licence or not," added SHO.

Sources said the residents did not even allow two-wheelers to pass the road during the three-hour blockade. The protesters pelted stones on police personnel who went to lift the blockade. Some cars and two-wheelers were also damaged.

The blockade could only be lifted after additional reinforcements were summoned from Khagaul, Phulwari and Danapur police stations.
