Patna, Jan. 31: In another incident of campus tension in the city, second and final year students of RPS Engineering College, Danapur, exchanged blows after alleged eve-teasing.
Sources said the incident occurred when a group of final year students, including some girls, had come to the college to collect their admit cards.
As the students were leaving, the second year students passed lewd comments at the final year girls.
The girls’ batchmates objected and the two groups got into a fight.
Soon students from both the batches assembled in front of the college gate and exchanged blows. Tension brewed on the campus for almost half-an-hour as members of both batches kept attacking each other.
The situation was finally brought under control once the college authorities intervened.
However, the college authorities said the fight broke out because of a ragging incident. Rajiv Ranjan, a professor, said: “The clash between the second year and final year students was the outcome of ragging.”
Tarun Lal Yadav, a second year student and JD (U) student wing leader, sustained injuries in the clash.
The vice-president of JD (U) Mahanagar Ravi Kumar condemned the incident.
He told The Telegraph: “The incident as an outcome of ragging. Yadav protested against the ragging of first year students by students of final year.”
He added the college authorities were trying to cover the incident as it will create a bad image for the tech hub.
But Danapur police ruled out the possibility that the clash was the fallout of a ragging incident and termed it an eve-teasing incident.
Anil Kumar, Danapur deputy superintendent of police, told The Telegraph: “The incident occurred as the two groups clashed with each other over some trivial issue.”
He also said the college has been asked to set up an internal inquiry over the incident.
