Patna, Aug. 1: The state government has ignored the contribution of government-employed engineers to the “development” of Bihar, alleged members of Bihar Engineering Services Association (Besa) today.

At a news meet, Besa members said they would soon launch a statewide movement to press their six-point charter of demands.

“Engineers in the state are in agony, as we have been ignored by the state government in spite of our contribution to the development of Bihar. It is because of the engineers that the state is developing at such a rapid rate. This is appreciated at the national- and international-level. Many officers and political leaders have been rewarded for the work, which has been done by engineers. Moreover, in spite of the acceptance of our demand and directive of a high-level committee formed to assess our wants, the state government has not fulfilled any of them at the ground-level,” said Shailesh Kumar, the Besa general secretary.

The demands of Besa include payment and incentives to engineers according to central standards, timely grade promotion or implementation of central batch parity and stoppage of external administrative intervention, especially deputation by the district administration.
