Patna, Oct. 20: Eve-teasers in the state capital were in for unpleasant surprises today. Unknown to them, the girls they targeted were probationary sub-inspectors (PSIs) in disguise.

The hunted turned hunters, and two eve-teasers were nabbed from the vicinity of Patna Junction.

Senior superintendent of police (SSP) Alok Kumar said: “Around 10am, a man approached an undercover PSI near Veena cinema and started to harass her. He wanted her to go to a hotel with him. A group of policemen, who had accompanied the lady cop, nabbed him. He has been identified as Arvind Kumar Sinha and claims to work in the state health department.”

The SSP added: “Devendra Sharma, a marketing agent, who was teasing another PSI was nabbed from the Station roundabout.”

Two others were also arrested when they tried to tease PSIs in other parts of the state capital. Twenty-year-old Rahul Kumar, a bus conductor, was picked up from the Mahali Pakhri area. One Tarkeshwar Prasad was nabbed from an autorickshaw stand in Jakkanpur.

The drive, which cops have named “invisible policing”, is on for quite a few days now. The Telegraph in its October 18 edition had reported the launch of the drive.

Patna city central superintendent of police Shivdeep Lande said: “There are several places in the state capital that have witnessed a spurt in cases of eve-teasing. We have decided to bring these places under our scanner. Shopping malls are on the top of our list, followed by schools and colleges. Those who misbehave with women should know that the police are everywhere to nab them.”

The police had decided to revive the plan of catching criminals with the help of women cops because of a recent spurt in cases of eve-teasing. The SSP had said earlier that constables at the Women’s Helpline had been asked to be a part of the drive.

Arrest

Police today claimed to have arrested Pintu Kumar, one of the two persons who allegedly molested a college girl and assaulted her father at Income Tax roundabout on October 13.

Lande said: “We had earlier produced sketches of the duo. We had information that Pintu was planning to surrender before a court.”

Pintu’s accomplice, identified as Ravi Prakash, the son of a Bihar Military Police assistant sub-inspector, is still absconding.
