Patna, March 13: Aspiring techies can now conduct various experiments online in the absence of proper infrastructure at their institutes thanks to the Virtual Labs project.

To create awareness about Virtual Labs, popularly known as VLabs, the science and technology department on Friday organised a two-day awareness programme for teachers from different government and private engineering colleges at Birla Institute of Technology (BIT), Patna.

For availing VLabs facility, any student can access the facilities at www.vlab.co.in once their password and user name are generated after registration. Amrita Vishwa Vidyapeetham, Kerala, the nodal university for VLab facility in Bihar, generated the user name and password for students. The university's VLab coordinator, Shilpa Sivan, demonstrated the nitty-gritties of VLab facilities.

Atul Sinha, director, science and technology said: "The focus of the workshop is to create awareness about the VLab facilities comprising hundreds of experiments." Giving an example, Sinha said: "In the electronic engineering stream on VLab, there are more than a dozen laboratories such as digital, microwave and very-large-scale integration. Each lab consists of 15 to 20 experiments on different topics and students can avail the facilities based on the requirement."

Anant Kumar, a professor at Muzaffarpur Institute of Technology (MIT), said: "The VLab facility would help students learn basic and advanced experiments and it would be available 24x7 all round the year."
