Twenty-seven of Anand Kumar’s Super 30 students cracked IIT-JEE, 2012, according to the results that were declared on Friday. Ayush Tiwari has secured the highest rank — 1,726 — among the 30 students.
Ayush, son of a farmer in Jharkhand’s Palamu district, wants to pursue mechanical engineering.
The list of successful Super 30 candidates this year also includes two girls (see chart).
With this year’s tally, the number of successful candidates from Super 30, since its inception in 2002, has gone up to 263. Last year, 24 students from the coaching institute had cracked the IIT-JEE.
Last year, the highest rank from Super 30 was 1,125, secured by Barrister Singh. The highest-ranking student from Super 30 in the past 10 years has been Divyanshu Jha, who ranked 10th in the general category in 2006. Son of a farmer from Madhubani district, Divyanshu is now working as a computer engineer with software giant Microsoft Pvt. Ltd.
The successful candidates this year are happy with their results. Anand remains their idol and they aspire to achieve bigger successes in the coming years.
Most of Super 30 students sit for a competitive test to enter the institute and then train for long hours under expert teachers.
Since last year, Anand has been declaring the names and roll numbers of his students two days before the results in a bid to maintain transparency. He said the results should “shut the mouths of his detractors”.
“My motto is to groom talented students so that they can lead better lives after becoming good engineers and do something for their families and the society. I do not know why some people are hell-bent on making baseless allegations against me even when I do not take any financial support, either from the government or any corporate firms,” said Anand.

He added that his students come from economically backward families who cannot afford expensive coach- ing programmes.
Kirti Ranjan (2,800th rank in general category) is the son of a farmer in Nalanda district. Kirti said he would be the first engineer from his village. “I am on top of the world. I have no words to thank Anand Sir. Apart from studies, it is the competitive, healthy and family-like atmosphere here (at the coaching institute) that helps students like me realise our dreams,” said the elated 18-year-old.
Nineteen-year-old Aditya Om, who aspires to be an astrophysicist, has ranked 12,440 in the general category. Son of a small-time homeopathy practitioner, Aditya said his father earned as much to make both ends meet and found it difficult to support his children’s study.
“I want to work for reputed space organisations such as NASA (USA) or Indian Space Research Organisation,” said Aditya.
Biswajeet Behera from Odisha, whose father is a security guard, was in tears after the results were declared. “This is the best day in my life so far. I am living my dream at this moment. I am waiting for the day I pass-out as an engineer, get a job and start supporting my family,” said Biswajeet. He secured 560th rank in the SC category.
Students come to Super 30 after gruelling tests at centres in Bihar, Uttar Pradesh, Delhi and Haryana.
Anand said from this year he plans to conduct admission tests at centres in Bengal and Odisha to select students for training.
