The Magadh University (MU) syndicate has approved promotion of around 90 teachers and forwarded a recommendation to promote non-teaching employees to the governor.

The syndicate took the decision at its meeting on Saturday evening at the official residence of the vice-chancellor (VC) in Gaya town.

A syndicate member told The Telegraph on condition of anonymity: “The syndicate has approved the promotion of around 90 teachers. Twenty readers have been promoted to the rank of professor under the Merit Promotion Scheme of the University Grants Commission (UGC). The syndicate has also approved the promotion of around 20 lecturers as university professor under the new Career Advancement Scheme of UGC and promotion of around 40 lecturers to the rank of reader. To clear promotion of non-teaching employees of the university, the syndicate passed a regulation, which will be sent to the governor-cum-chancellor of state universities for approval.”

Magadh University acting VC Arun Kumar, who is also the VC of BN Mandal University, Madhepura, presided over the syndicate meeting.

It has decided to constitute a three-member screening committee for creating posts of teachers in affiliated colleges under MU. The committee will conduct an inquiry regarding the requirement of teachers and on the basis of the report, posts at the affiliated colleges would be approved.

The syndicate granted a one-year temporary affiliation to at least 43 colleges for starting professional and vocational courses, on condition that the institutions would develop necessary infrastructure within the period.

The syndicate recommended granting permanent affiliation to Sri Krishna Mahila College, Jehanabad, for running degree (conventional) courses. The syndicate’s nod came because of available infrastructure at the college.

The syndicate also decided to send utilisation certificate to the state education department against salary grant for March and April 2012.

It discussed proposals, which were submitted by the building construction committee of respective colleges, to construct buildings in the different institutions.
