Patna: A team of officials from the Union ministry of housing and urban affairs, appointed by the Swachh Bharat Mission programme, will arrive in Patna on Thursday to conduct a three-day survey for Swachh Survekshan.

The team would comprise observer, senior assessor and junior assessor of Karvy Consultancy, appointed by the Centre. They will inspect documents prepared by Patna Municipal Corporation (PMC).

Officials in the civic body said the team on the first two days would collect and verify documents related to measures taken on cleanliness drive in Patna. The team would gather information about door-to-door waste collection, general positioning system used to monitor vehicles carrying waste and other innovative measures and practices that are adopted by the PMC. Besides, the three-member team will also inspect documents on cleanliness in residential and commercial areas, segregation of waste and garbage at source, daily cleaning, sanitation, and hygiene facilities.

The documentation and the service-level progress (data provided by municipal body) carry 1,400 of the total 4,000 marks on which cities are being assessed in the Swachh Survekshan survey for 2018.

In 2016, Patna was 70th among 73 cities and 262nd among 434 cities in the 2017 survey. At present, Patna is 44 among the 4,041 cities being assessed in the country.

On Thursday, the Karvy team will visit residential areas, including slums, Patna City, unplanned and developed areas. Without interacting with anyone on this visit, the team will click pictures to support their observation and assess the situation on their own. Similarly, the team will check whether public toilets in the city are gender-friendly, do they get electric supply, are they connected with onsite safe disposal system, does it carry information, education and communication messages.

The members would also check whether the commercial places are clean, how clean are vegetable and meat markets, the Patna railway station, Bihar State Road Transport Corporation terminal, private bus terminals and other important centres in the city.

This direct-observation measure carries 1,200 marks and would play a significant role to judge Patna's place on the "cleanliness index" developed in the country.
