Patna: Deputy chief minister Sushil Kumar Modi triggered off the fall of the Grand Alliance government when he started holding a series of media meets to expose acquisition of property by Lalu and his family members.

On Saturday, he was still at it with another set of documents hinting the acquisition of 255 decimals of prime land in Patna City being leased out to Tejashwi Yadav in 2012 for 91 years for a sum of Rs 20,000 a year.

Asked how much worth the properties he had "exposed" was worth, Modi replied: "I do not know because it will take a lot of calculation. But I do know Lalu and family are bigger zamindars than Mulayam Singh Yadav and Akhilesh Yadav," he said, hinting that he had many more evidence of land and wealth acquired by Lalu and family.

Modi on Saturday released documents, which indicated that 255 decimals of prime land which had been purchased in the name of poor relatives.

"Around 104 decimals of land was purchased in the name of Lalu Prasad's elder brother, the late Mukund Prasad's son-in-law Rajnikant Singh between 1991 and 2012 through six deeds," Modi said, pointing out that the rest of land was bought in the name of relatives of Rajnikant Singh.

He said on June 12, 2012, all the land was leased out to Tejashwi Yadav for 91 years till May 31, 2102. "The lease agreement says that even if this lease was not renewed after that period, Tejashwi's family can retain the land by giving a fine of Rs 1,000 per year," he said.

Modi pointed out that the area where the land existed land, the rate of rent was Rs 5 per square feet per year. "At this rate, the owners of land should be paid Rs 5.58 lakh per year. But Tejashwi Yadav will be getting it for just Rs 20,000 per year for the next 91 years. There is no clause in the deed for increase of rent," said Modi.

He alleged that Lalu got the land registered in the name of his poor relatives because he could not show so much white money to the income tax authorities.

"Lalu Prasad has used new methods of acquiring land from ill-gotten money through gifts, deeds, power-of-attorney but this is the first one I have come across in which lease is used. He considers all of us fools," Modi said. Sushil said he would be sending all his documents to the concerned authorities.

Reacting to Sushil Kumar Modi's charges, RJD MP Manoj Kumar Jha said: "One feels sorry to note the degeneration, which is taking place with more pace everyday in the political discourse of Sushil Modi. He must report these 'revelations' to his political masters in Delhi so that they give a script to these agencies a.k.a. alliance partners of the BJP."

"Mr Modi should learn to provide at least a semblance of governance to the people of Bihar whose mandate he robbed in collaboration with Nitish ji. The horrifying rise in the crime against women and complete break in law and order should shame him as he occupies the post of the deputy chief minister."
